I don’t share very personal aspects of my life on here, but I really want to put this in context.
I once dated this guy who was very driven, and super ambitious. It was one of the things I liked most about him actually. We were having a conversation one day, and he shared that he had a performance review that went well. I congratulated him as you would anyone who’s received such good feedback at work, more so if you’re dating this person. He then replied and said “Well, it’s not like I get a raise or anything” To which I replied something along the lines of “yeah, there’s no money now, but when you apply for that position that you want in the future, the leg work you’re doing now, and the positive feedback you’re receiving now is going to PUT you in the position to SECURE that job.”
You see, a lot of us want the gratification now, and life just does not work that way. Every professional job that I’ve had has propelled me into the next. If you sit back and look at your trajectory, and truly look, you’ll see how a skill you gained has come in handy for what came after. Foundation is a building block to life. If you want a strong result you’ve got a build a strong foundation.
Let’s take blogging for example, I’ve been blogging for about 7 years. I didn’t start earning income from my blog until 2016; that’s about 4 years later. I’ve been asked to host events, produce video content, blog posts etc. Those 4 years where my blog wasn’t generating income, were my foundational years. Brands and companies alike can take a look at my work and see that it speaks for itself; my resume if you will. If you keep at it, the results will come. I just wanted to encourage you guys and myself to keep going even when it feels like nothing is happening. Trust me, hard work does pay off only if you don’t quit.
