My Travel Essential Checklist

travel-essentials-checklistSo you’ve booked your flight, hotel accommodations, and now have to pack for your international trip. Today, I wanted to share a few things on my checklist that you might find helpful if you’re planning an upcoming Spring/Summer trip.

If you’re traveling internationally, It’s always recommended to visit your local travel clinic even if you are up to date on your shots. I didn’t think I needed any shots but it turns out my Typhoid shot had expired. To avoid getting sick overseas, it’s best to go in and consult with the travel nurse.

Staying connected is important to me, and especially for safety reasons, I like to stay connected to family back home. I make sure to check whether the country I;m traveling to requires an adapter/converter for my phone.

In keeping with staying connected, I appreciate a good portable charger to juice up my phone while I am on the go without having to make a stop to charge my phone.

Malaria medications, if you’re traveling to an area affected by Malaria, Immodium- anti-diahrrea medication. Tylenol, Advil.

Neck Pillows for comfort especially on long flights. My flight to Thailand is a good 20 hours.

Passport and Id- I like to make copies of these, and leave with a family member. Passports need to have more than 6 months of validity in order to travel to most countries. While your passport may not expire for another 4 months, most intl travel requires that you have more than six months of passport validity for your travels.

Go to your local bank, and purchase some travelers checks and exchange currency. Always travel with some form of cash on you. I made the mistake of not converting my USD prior to arriving in Paris, and it was a rough first night. Read all about it HERE.

Make sure your bank is made aware of your travel plans, so they do not flag your purchases.

My flight to Thailand is 20 hours with a very short layover in Korea. A flight that long, you might need a neck pillow to protect your neck and keep you comfortable.
