A few months ago, I had the opportunity to work with TreLuxe. I enjoy creating fun content, whether it’s here on my blog or on my youtube channel, it’s all amazing. I love the ability and range I have to be creative within my platforms. You can watch my video of me using and reviewing their products HERE. While you’re at it, don’t forget to subscribe.
Two weeks ago, I was blessed to meet Cortney and her husband Kiprono Sigilai, founders of TreLuxe. They’re Chicago based and were in town to promote their brand which is currently being sold in Whole Foods. I was able to spend a few hours with them on Saturday and Sunday, talking curls with a diverse group of women. It was such a great time, getting to connect with women and helping them with their hair needs as well as connecting with the Cortney and Kiprono in person. They’re genuine, relatable, and super fun to work with! So I took a chance and asked if they’d be open to an interview here on the blog, and they were! Read below to find out what Cortney had to say about TreLuxe!
1) How did TreLuxe come about? What made you want to start your own hair care line?
CS: Treluxe was birthed of our necessity! Once I ditched the chemicals, I found myself hopping from one product to another, to another, to another! I was looking for moisture, long-term definition and products that aren’t just good for your hair, but your body too. When I couldn’t find it, my husband, Kiprono, Co-Founder of TreLuxe had a bright idea to start our own curly care line, that addressed the common curly hair concerns of frizz, knots, tangles, dryness, breakage and fly-aways.
2) During the short time I got to spend with the TreLuxe team, I learned about the “three M’s, maintenance, moisture and manageability”, how does that translate in how TreLuxe works on the hair?
CS: Ohh the 3Ms they are important and have been the drivers of how we formulate our products. Moisture is key to a happy hair relationship, but the right balance of moisture is critical to the strength, agility and elasticity of the hair. With this in mind, with all of our products you will find that the first 3 ingredients are water and aloe vera. As mentioned, the right balance of moisture, provides agility and elasticity, to the curly girl, that translates to manageable curls. With our products, we make it a point to get do away with the love-hate relationship that some of us have with our hair- less detangling, less cutting, less hours.
3) Huge Congratulations again on being on the shelves of Whole Foods since March! What made you decide partner with Whole Foods?
CS: I would say it was happenstance, but I know all too well it was God. We really like the mission and values of Whole Foods and loved that they were bringing a Whole Foods to a food desert here in Chicago, the neighborhood is known as Englewood. To kick things off, they had a community summit, in which they were looking for local suppliers. A friend of Kiprono’s told us about the event, so we decided to go and pitch TreLuxe! The rest is history. 🙂
4)What advice would you give to anyone looking to start or business or someone who is considering entrepreneurship?
CS: Make sure whatever the venture, it aligns with your God-given purpose; as there will be great sacrifices expected of you. Also, know that it takes a team, you can’t do it by yourself, it was not designed that way. We have learned to associate ourselves with people who are going the same direction.
5) What can we look forward to from TreLuxe in the future/ What’s next for TreLuxe?
We excited about adding products to the line… So stay tuned for that! Additionally, we are ramping up to support non-profit organizations that align themselves with our mission to help women define themselves, enhance their lives and inspire others!
Thanks so much Cortney for this interview!
