20 things I learned in my 20’s

In honor of my 30th birthday this past Monday, I wanted to share  20 things I learned in my 20’s. I hope you find it helpful, and I’d love to know some of the things you’ve learned in your lifetime.
Correct people if it matters less

I’m  (was) the Queen Princess of correcting people. lol ( not on purpose). I’ve learned that correcting a person should be constructive and beneficial to them not just to make you feel better.

Quality Matters

I remember when I thought it was absurd to spend a certain amount of money on a bag or a pair of shoes. While I love to save a pretty penny, I much rather invest in quality pieces that will last me a while. Quality does not have to mean expensive.

 Live with Purpose

I have to admit, I didn’t always do things purposefully. But, I’ve learned if you live according to purpose not type it’ll get you much further.

Relationships are everything

I’m naturally a shy person, that is until you get to know me. While I realize all of my relationships aren’t going to be of the same caliber, it’s important to have positive relationships with people in your circle. I’ve also learned to push my comfort zone and network more especially in the blogosphere.

 Accountability matters

Being accountable for yourself is so important, and being accountable for others and having others be accountable for you will take you far.

 Don’t live in your feelings

I’m calling myself out on this one. At times, I can be easily offended. I’ve learned that it’s OK to be offended and not take offense. Since feelings are fleeting, it’s best not to live in them because they change frequently.

Get paid for what you know, not what you do

Get paid for what you know, not what you do Share on X

A professor said this in grad school, and it’s resonated with me since. Its fine to get paid for what you do, rightfully so. It’s even better to get paid for what you know. After all, isn’t it better to know what you are doing?

Save more than you spend

I love to shop, and having a style/fashion focused blog doesn’t help my savings. But, I realize that rainy days do come, and without a warning might I add. Saving for a rainy day is imperative even if it never rains. Share on X

 Invest your  time wisely

Time is one of those things we all know is important, yet take for granted. I heard once that we get paid in our jobs/careers by time (per hour, per year) essentially what you’re worth (perceived).

Travel as much as you can

There’s something about traveling to uncharted territories, living like a local, and immersing yourself in new cultures that’s just priceless.  Read about my solo trip to Paris here.

Learn to enjoy your own company

This was one of THE most difficult lessons I’ve had to learn. Learning to be alone; it’s a process, but so worth it. Read my post about it here.

 Live with intention

I’ve grown so much since I’ve started intentionally feeding my inner person, positively. My perspective has changed and sometimes it baffles me at how things that used to bother me no longer bothers me.

 Make time for memories

Because I enjoy my alone time so much, I tend to overindulge in solitude. Earlier this year my family went on our first family trip to Florida/Disney. It was expensive, but you really can’t price memories.

It’s much better to add value than seek to be valued

I’ve learned very recently; which constantly has me thinking- how am I adding value to those in my life? How am I adding value to this blog, to my social media platforms, my readers? What am I doing that’s useful and helpful to others, because it’s really much more bigger than me, no?

Looks aren’t everything, but they’re important

Presentation is pivotal. How you present a product, an idea, or yourself says more than the actual content you are presenting. #details

 What you feed WILL grow

This applies to so many aspects of life- If you feed into positivity you will think and feel more positive. Conversely, if you feed your mind negative things you’ll think more negative.

Put yourself in the position to receive

I think by now we all know that it’s MUCH better to give than it is to receive. It’s also important to go after what you want and know you’re WORTH it. Every. Good. Thing. It’s difficult to put yourself in a situation to receive if you don’t believe you’re worth it or that you deserve it.

Be content, but never complacent

Be thankful for what you have and never stop striving to be better. There’s always something to improve. Always.

What you THINK matters

Proverbs 23:7 says “as a man thinketh, so is he.” I’ve learned that you imagine your dreams before you ever accomplish them. You see yourself married, before you ever meet the man /woman of your dreams. I imagined my first blog post before this blog came into fruition. The way you THINK determines/shapes your reality. Precondition your mind to see the good in every situation. I’ve found that in the darkest of places, lies a glimmer of light. If you look hard enough, trust me, you’ll find it. I Promise you.

Live a little/take chances

I can be a bit uptight at times. (I’m working on it) A few times where I’ve not over-analyzed every situation, I ended up having the best of time.
