Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring into Spring Cleaning—with Fashion and Friends!

Hi Loves! Yesterday was the first day of Spring, National Macaron Day & International Happiness Day. It was truly a happy day for me, and hope the same for you. I actually headed to the ids center during lunch to fulfill my macaron craving, and the lady who worked the counter informed me it was National Macaron day. it was one of those right place, right time sorta things. Anyway. It’s Spring now, and like most of you, I am starting to clean THINK about cleaning out my closet. Morgan contacted me a few weeks ago asking to share her spring cleaning tips here on the blog. I found her article to be helpful, and here I am sharing with you guys! Sharing is caring right?

Despite this snow that simply will not leave, I am determined to
welcome in spring! I love the feeling of having a clean, fresh closet, but
going through and actually doing the deed is exhausting! A few weeks ago a few
girl friends and I were talking about this, and I discovered we all have the
same problem. So, in a moment of inspiration after seeing this closet checklist, we’ve decided to have a
spring cleaning out party. Here’s how we’re going to do it, and maybe you’ll
like to try it out too!
1. Make It Fun!
It’s certainly good to know we
don’t have to do this alone, so we’re going to make this as fun as possible!
Three or four of my friends are planning to come over this Saturday afternoon
so we can pamper ourselves and literally air out our closets. I’ve asked them
each to bring a tub or two of clothes from their closets, and since they’re
doing that work, I’m going to throw a great themed party. I’m determined to
kick out the ice, so I’m going to make it beach-themed: I’m pulling out my
cheerful summer cups and plates, whipping up my favorite lemonade recipe, and
putting out sunglasses for everyone.
2. Try It On and Swap!
I have a nice big walk-in closet
with a lot of mirrors, so we’re going to shack up in there for the afternoon.
We’ll each take turns trying on clothes and sorting, sorting, sorting: what to
keep? What to throw away? What to donate? I know I always end up making much
better clothing choices with my friends there, so we can help each other
negotiate our old clothing—it’s like we know each others’ styles better than we
ourselves do. I’m going to hang up a sign with the Big Fashion Questions: Does
it fit? What colors have you been wearing? Can you mix and match? And the big
one: Have you worn it in the past year? The one-year rule is golden for me—if
you haven’t worn it in the last twelve months, the chances of your wearing it
in the next twelve months are microscopic.

Once we have each gone through our
turns and sorted out our clothes, I’m going to propose a clothing swap from the
piles of clothes we would like to donate. This is a great way to revamp your
closet for less cost, and a fun way to help out your girl friends! I personally
find it extremely satisfying when I know I’ve helped a friend find a great
piece of clothing. For example, my friend Laura has this gorgeous black top I’ve been eyeing for the past few months, and
I’d be happy to trade my purple pumps for it—I know she’ll look great in them!
3. Donate the Rest!
I hate reading those statistics
about tons and tons of clothes just rotting in landfills when we could at the
very least repurpose them, so I’m very against throwing clothes out. So, after the
clothing swap and beach party, I’ll be taking all the clothes that my girls
would like to throw out and repurpose the ones beyond repair, and the rest I’ll
take to donate. I love the work that Goodwill and the Salvation Army do, and
there are a number of shelters in the area that I know give the clothes
straight to the women they support. When you do donate, though, be sure to be
kind and don’t give dirty clothes! I’ll do a big wash and then deliver the
fresh clothing to those in need. And I know my girl friends love the idea of
cleaning out their closets and their
consciences at the same time!
With a little work, team work, and
maybe a Long Island Iced Tea or two, I know we can have a great time airing out
our closets! There’s nothing quite like girl power. Go team!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend!
xx,
