Making the decision to go natural is one thing, and maintaining your natural hair is a whole other story as natural hair products can be quite costly. Especially since there are lots of amazing brands out there and becoming a product junkie is not a hard thing to do. I’ve gotten a few questions on my Instagram regarding products I use, and seeing how I’ve been natural for going on only two months, I try to limit my product use to really figure out what my hair likes rather than overloading my hair with products. Let’s overview-
1) Apple Cider Vinegar: I love cleansing my hair with ACV once to twice a month. Products tend to build up, and it really helps to cleanse your scalp. If you don’t know, ACV has a harsh smell, so I suggest diluting with water in a spray bottle.
2) Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Shampoo/Conditioner: I love this product for several reasons. It smells good, hydrating, and very inexpensive. I tend to co-wash (washing hair with conditioner, rather than shampoo) my hair, so I run through the conditioner much faster.
3) Kinky Curly Knot Today: This stuff is the TRUTH! I started using KCKT when I was transitioning and my hair was seriously tangled all the time. It helped so much. I honestly think that it works whether you are relaxed, transitioning or natural. I love it so much, I purchased a bottle for my sisters because my baby sis cries a lot on wash days. I wish this product was around when I was growing up.

4) Cantu Leave In Conditioner: I randomly started using this product after I “borrowed” it from my mother’s bathroom. Her and my sisters never used it, so I helped myself to it. I love how soft it leaves my hair and it smells good too. Depending on the style, I alternate this and KCKT.
5) Curls release defining serum: This stuff is the ISH. Yes, I said ISH. This stuff curls my hair right up like no other! It is my absolute favorite product right now. I get better definition when I use it with my denman brush for my wash and gos. Let me know if you would like to see a tutorial of my Wash and Gos.
6) Carol’s Daughter Heat Production Spray: I rarely use heat on my hair, so this product will last me a very long time. When I am pressed for time, I spray a bit of this protection spray and sit under my hooded dryer.
7) Coconut Oil: Honestly, I am not partial to this brand. I just happened to grab it at my local grocery store. It’s pure coconut oil, so I use it to seal my hair and also for separating my coils and curls to minimize frizz.
8) ORS Deep Conditioner: Besides making my own conditioners, which is something I rarely do. I love this ORS DC. I actually have been using it way before I was natural. It leaves my hair soft and moisturized which I love.
9) Beautiful Textures Curl Control Defining Pudding: I used this product for my braid outs when I was transitioning and continue to do so now that I am natural. I love that it provides me my hair a hold but not that of a gel.
A Few Tips: If you’re newly natural like myself, I suggest subscribing to monthly subscription services such as Curlbox or Cocotique. They’re usually 20-25 dollars a month and it’s a great way to discover new brands at a reasonable price.
I’d love to hear from you guys, so feel free to leave me comments and questions you may have and share some products you’re currently using and loving.
